Last fall, the federal government announced it would invest $181.5 million in the COVID-19 Emergency Support Fund for Cultural, Heritage and Sport Organizations to stimulate employment in the arts and culture sector, support the continuation of activities during the pandemic, and prepare for a sustainable recovery of the sector. Yesterday, Minister Steven Guilbeault presented the details of the announced funding.
The Canada Council for the Arts will invest $116.5 million in 2 programs:
Digital Now (NEW!)
The new Digital Now digital innovation initiative ($50.5 M) will enable artist groups, collectives, and organizations to adapt or create works for a virtual audience;
Deadlines: March 31, 2021 & April 28, 2021
Fixed amounts: $25,000, $50,000 or $100,000

Explore and Create
A new Explore and Create program funding ($66 M) will serve to stimulate research, creation, and production of new works by funding Canadian artists, groups, and artistic organizations involved in the creation and dissemination of innovative, dynamic, and diverse art.
Deadlines: April 8 and October 6, 2021
Amount: Maximum of $100,000 per applicant (up to 100% of eligible expenses)
Other good news:
As announced in last November’s economic statement, the government is extending for one year the $25 million funding to the Canada Arts Presentation Fund, to the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program, and to the Canada Music Fund.
