TOHU is 20 Years Old
Special Supplement – Le Devoir
November 30, 2024
Well-established within the Cité des arts du cirque, TOHU’s cylindrical building has been instrumental in the development of the sector in Quebec and its formidable vitality. By offering local and visiting artists a venue for performance and creation, the institution has contributed to establishing Montreal circus arts as a true ecosystem that continues to expand. Now radiating internationally, alongside Cirque du Soleil and the National Circus School, TOHU is dedicated to extending its reach beyond its immediate sphere. This commitment includes showcasing the surrounding Frédéric-Back Park and engaging the residents of Saint-Michel, its adopted neighborhood, in its activities. This environmental and community dedication has been a cornerstone since its inauguration 20 years ago. This supplement commemorates the occasion by reviewing the institution’s genesis, its accomplishments, and the challenges it must overcome to continue — always — to captivate the public amidst a joyful ‘tohu-bohu’!
