The Montreal Arts Council, La compagnie des autres and En Piste, offer an inspiring framework to develop your artistic language and add a new dimension to your creations.
Who is this residence intended for?
To individual artists, professional artist collectives and non-profit organizations in circus arts.
What are the objectives?
This program aims to:
- to promote research and exploration for the development of new forms in circus arts
- to encourage the circus of authors and writers
- to allow research and creation without dissemination constraints, under suitable conditions and in an appropriate location
- to offer support that promotes professional development focused on improving skills related to showcasing the artistic approach, as well as acquiring skills for seeking funding for the project

Support
What assistance is provided?
The selected artist, collective or organization benefits from:
- an artistic fee of $15,000 from the Council
- 5 hours of support from Compagnie des autres to acquire skills in fundraising for the project
- access to the Compagnie des autres creative center (120 hours / 3 weeks)
- 20 hours of personalized support from En Piste for developing skills related to showcasing the artistic approach
- a one-year membership with En Piste, if the winner has never been a member and subject to the criteria of the membership policy
- a residency showcase open to the public, allowing for networking, meetings and exchanges
How long will the support last?
The support is one-off and not recurring.
Eligibility
Which projects are eligible?
Research and exploration projects for the creation of a show.
What are the general eligibility requirements?
For the individual artist:
- have Canadian citizenship or permanent residence
- be domiciled on the territory of Montreal Island
- to be recognized as a professional artist
- have at least one artistic achievement to their credit, presented in a professional context
For a collective of artists:
- to be a group of artists (minimum two artists)
- be represented by a person responsible for the application who must hold Canadian citizenship or permanent residency
- must be composed of two-thirds artists with Canadian citizenship or permanent residency; the proportion of members of the collective residing outside Canada cannot exceed one-third
- be composed of artists primarily domiciled (50% +1) on the territory of Montreal Island, including the person responsible for the application
- be composed of professional artists who meet the definition of the Montreal Arts Council
For an arts organization:
- be a non-profit corporation or a non-profit artists’ cooperative that does not pay dividends
- have its head office on the territory of Montreal Island
- have a board of directors primarily composed of individuals holding Canadian citizenship or permanent residency in Canada
- have as its primary mission the realization of creation, production, or dissemination activities in the field of arts
- have a recognized level of competence and be able to demonstrate it
- to be managed by qualified people
- to have a stable artistic direction
- to present activities whose artistic quality is recognized by peers in the same artistic practice
- employ professional artists and cultural workers
What are the specific eligibility requirements?
- Have read the technical specifications of the residency venue to ensure the technical feasibility of the project
- Be available and present·e on the pre-established dates and at the pre-established location of the residency
- Hold valid public liability insurance for the entire duration of the residency (It is recommended to budget for this if necessary.)
- Ensure that at least one representative actively participates in the professional support process offered by En Piste (20 hours)
- Participate in a debriefing meeting with the partners involved in the project
- Present the results of the work carried out during the residency in the form of a public presentation to prospective collaborators, the public, and partners
Notes :
- It is possible to submit a project that has undergone a preliminary research phase. However, the completion of a preliminary phase is not an eligibility criterion.
- La Compagnie des autres will not be able to offer assistance with project writing or personalized support for submitting an application to this residency program.
What is the project’s timeframe?
The residency at the Centre de création de La Compagnie des autres will take place from May 5 to 25, 2025. The support offered by En Piste, the national circus arts network, will take place during the year 2025.
How many applications will be accepted?
Only one application will be accepted.
