Two years ago, En Piste laid the groundwork for Destination Cirque, an ambitious project aimed at promoting circus arts in Quebec. The vision was clear: to conquer Quebec’s stages to showcase a rich and aesthetically diverse circus, with shows of various formats suitable for all audiences. The main objective was to create a vast distribution network by involving multidisciplinary presenters from all regions. Financial support from CALQ enabled them to be provided with the tools, resources, specialized support, and fee assistance, so they could fully invest in the development and promotion of the discipline.
Today, this network brings together 37 presenters from 16 regions of Quebec, thus uniting emblematic cultural venues. It is the result of invaluable collaboration. Thanks to their commitment, these venues have contributed to the emergence of shows, offering an unparalleled artistic selection. Nearly a third of the circus partners are now developing circus series, thus demonstrating the achievement of a key objective for the coming years. The remarkable increase in the number of spectators, which rose from 49,167 to 89,847, also attests to their ability to attract audiences to circus performances. Their dedication to circus mediation has also inspired remarkable initiatives, fostering an understanding and appreciation of circus as a unique artistic expression, while forging significant connections with the public.
As we present our report, and on the eve of a new season, we extend our heartfelt thanks to them. We also commend the increase in the number of Quebec companies in the repertoire, which features 86 shows and reflects the artists’ contribution to the vitality of local circus after the pandemic.
