Description
Contortion does not mean “being flexible.” It is a physical technique and a hyperconsciousness of inner sensations that, in constant dialogue with the body, create openness and amplitude within all of its particles. This workshop aims to demystify contortion practices through a holistic approach in harmony with the body and its imprinted memories. It is designed for all circus professionals who wish to expand their flexibility and integrate it into their practices, to discover new approaches, to embody new tools, and to develop confidence and knowledge about their own physicality.
This workshop is designed for all circus professionals.
Workshop instructor

As a performer and performance maker, Andréane Leclerc is interested in human encounters that lead to interdisciplinary and interartistic processes. She draws inspiration from 20 years of circus practice to reflect on contortion as a philosophy and not as a skill. In 2013, she earned a master’s degree in the theatre department of the Université du Québec à Montréal in the field of body dramaturgy. The same year, she co-founded the company Nadère arts vivants with her partner Geoffroy Faribault in order to pursue her practice of research on the body by creating and presenting conceptual stage works (Cherepaka, Di(x)parue, The Whore of Babylon, Sang Bleu, and À l’est de nod, currently in creation). Her work has been presented in Canada (CCAFT, La Chapelle scènes contemporaines, Tangente - Laboratoire de mouvements contemporains) and abroad (Festival Sismògraf in Olot, Sala Hiroshima in Barcelona, Palak Akropolis in Prague, Les Plateaux in Paris, Can Monroig in Inca, D-CAF Festival in Cairo, FIDAE in Montevideo and Festival Lila López in San Luis Potosí). Andréane has been giving workshops to artists since 2014 (Studio 303 in Montréal, Fabbrica Europa in Italy, etc.).
