Training Overview
This 35h workshop is intended for artists, technicians, and riggers responsible for rigging installations who wish to develop or refresh essential knowledge regarding safety and best practices in performance rigging.
Participants will be made aware of the hazards associated with their field. They will acquire basic knowledge of rigging equipment and best practices for using rigging systems. The training will also help participants develop the skills needed to inspect rigging equipment and identify improper installations. Finally, participants will understand the importance of the laws and standards governing stage rigging, as well as how they are applied in practice.
Biographies
Fred Gérard is a graduate of the first class of the C.N.A.C. Since 1989, he has worked as an artistic, acrobatic, and technical designer, as well as an instructor, for numerous circus companies (Cirque du Soleil, Archaos, Franco Dragone, CNAC, ECQ). In 2019, he joined the HUPR* Center for Research on Human Potential at the ENC as a researcher and designer of performance apparatus and environments. In 2022, he created the Camion d’Intervention Artistique, an aerial performance combining circus arts and street arts.

Marcus Gauthier. His career path has been highly unconventional, beginning with breakdancing in the early ’80s, followed by classical ballet and social dance.
Looking for a new challenge, and thanks to the Yellow Pages, the National Circus School opened its doors wide in ’91. Finally, a place for someone with ADHD to the power of three ! The result: more than 20 years with Cirque Éloize and numerous collaborations with Cirque du Soleil, Taylor Swift, Céline Dion, Neil Patrick Harris, the OSM, Marie-Josée Lord, Robert Charlebois, and many others. More than 30 countries across 4 continents—and it’s still going strong.
With a specialty in aerial arts, a career in acrobatic and scenic rigging was a natural fit.
The last few years have been dedicated to both artistic and technical training. The National Circus School, Production Jeun’Est, the National Theatre School, Lionel-Groulx College, and many others.
