Training Overview
Designed for individual artists or those leading a collective project, this workshop aims primarily to deepen their understanding of the various funding programs and to equip them with the tools needed to ensure the coherence of their submitted project proposals, thereby improving their chances of success.
This training is tailored to the specific needs of the circus community, taking into account the unique practices and requirements of circus creation and touring, grant-writing terminology, technical and budgetary considerations, and more.
Specific Objectives
By the end of the training, participants will be able to:
- Find information about the grants available to them, based on their situation and project (promotion, touring, creation, career development, etc.), and understand what each grant covers;
- Understand the general programs available at various funding levels and their specific requirements;
- Create accounts on the various arts council platforms
Biography
With a degree in art history from Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University and a degree in cultural organization management from HEC Montréal, Alice Kop has built her career as a manager in the circus arts field since 2007. While serving as executive assistant at Cirque Éloize from 2007 to 2010, she volunteered to support her friends in the circus community. In particular, she assisted Cirque Alfonse with its registration as a nonprofit organization and its first grant applications, and quickly came to understand the various challenges young creators face in the field.
As tour director until 2012, she gained insight into the challenges of programming, on-site management, and logistics specific to the circus arts. She worked with TOHU, Moment Factory, Cirque du Soleil, En Piste, the 375th anniversary of Montréal, and Cirque Éloize. These rich and varied experiences allowed her to understand the field inside and out and to develop a vision for the needs to be met and the projects to be implemented to address them.
In 2020, she co-founded La compagnie des autres with Antoine Carabinier Lépine and Nicolas Fortin, a service organization whose mission is to support creation in the circus arts. At the helm of the company, she is firmly committed to promoting diversity in circus arts programming.
