Training Overview
Participants are invited to explore their creative projects through an overview of technical aspects: sound, lighting, set design, rigging, and costumes. The workshop will also provide an introduction to the QLAB software, the basics of lighting (traditional vs. LED, manual consoles vs. programming), and the role of the technical director.
Next, they will have the opportunity to participate in a simulated cue to cue run-through incorporating the topics covered.
Biographies
Sylvain Bouillere—SULY—is a multidisciplinary artist.
A visual artist, musician, skater, choreographer, and performing artist, he has been interested in the circus world since 2017. Of Belgian and French descent and having grown up in Montreal since the age of 6, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in visual arts from Concordia University, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in arts education from UQAM.
He helped found the contemporary skating company Le Patin Libre and worked as an assistant to the artistic director at the self-managed circus Zirkus Mond in Berlin.
He is one of the founders and artistic director of Collectif 4237 and wrote the original script for the show LABO.
In 2024, he co-founded Le Chat Bleu, a platform for the creation and presentation of performing arts, primarily in the fields of circus, puppetry, and music.

Nathan Biggs-Penton is a multidisciplinary artist and the creator and co-founder of Acting for Climate Montréal.
While training as a circus artist, he studied stage techniques in the Design and Production program at the Youth Performing Arts School. Since 2013, he has been creating and touring his own productions, where he has had the opportunity to collaborate with experienced technicians and stagehands, allowing him to develop his skills in circus stage techniques.
Committed to feminist, environmental, and anti-colonial causes, these values permeate his artistic work.
He has worked with companies, both large and small, such as Cirque du Soleil, Les 7 Doigts, Cirque Éloize, Machine de Cirque, Cirque de Demain, Jacob’s Pillow, MCC, Carmagnole, Cirque Bouffon, Girovago, Impro-Cirque, and Cirque Collini, among others.
