Aimed at artists, circus companies, and technical directors of performance venues, this training offers an essential deep dive into technical rider design – much more than a simple logistical document: a true professional business card and a strategic dissemination tool.
Led by Hugo Hamel, a technical and production director with over 17 years of experience in creation and dissemination with various Quebec circus companies, this session addresses, in a structured and practical way, everything a well-designed technical rider can provide:
Showcasing your performance or act from the first contact with a presenter
Clearly presenting your technical needs without causing confusion or concern
Establishing a climate of trust between artists and performance venues
Preventing unforeseen issues, enhancing safety, and ensuring smoother touring
Beyond logistics, a well-conceived technical rider reflects the seriousness, artistic vision, and maturity of a project. It becomes a key asset in your dissemination efforts, alongside your artistic portfolio and presentation videos.
This training will provide you with the tools to design a clear, professional, and attractive document, capable of opening doors, while reassuring the technical teams who host you.

“As a technical and production director for over 25 years, I have dedicated myself to the design, planning, and implementation of complex stage projects, primarily in the field of circus and live arts. My career has led me to collaborate with several international companies such as Cirque du Soleil, Cirque Éloize, Cirque Alfonse, and ComediHa!, providing technical direction and production for original creations, international tours, and permanent installations.
I have also participated in large-scale institutional projects, including the celebrations for Montreal’s 375th anniversary (835 performances hosted in one month), and I worked for over 10 years at the Palais des congrès de Montréal as a technical director and head rigger, successfully managing several hundred productions annually.
A graduate in theatrical production and ETCP certified in rigging, I apply my expertise to ambitious creations, balancing artistic demands, technical feasibility, and efficient resource management.
Since 2021, I have been living aboard my sailboat, a long-standing passion, thus combining mobility with remote professional engagement, in a lifestyle that promotes both concentration and balance.” – Hugo Hamel
