According to the Institut de la statistique du Québec, “In 2018, Quebec municipalities’ operating expenditures for culture totaled $1,017 M, an increase of 6.9% compared to 2016.” (…)
As observed in previous years, in 2018, 80% of spending on cultural services provided to the public went to libraries ($348 M), arts and literature ($156 M), and heritage, public art, and design ($116 M). (…)
Among the seven municipal size groups studied, the highest per capita spending was found in the group of municipalities with 500,000 inhabitants or more, consisting of Montreal and Quebec City ($196.91 per inhabitant), and in the group of municipalities with 100,000 to 199,999 inhabitants, consisting of Lévis, Saguenay, Sherbrooke, Terrebonne, and Trois-Rivières ($130.84 per inhabitant).
