Following studies in scenography (Saint-Hyacinthe Theatre School), Marc-Alexandre Brûlé advocates a multidisciplinary approach to scenic mediums by placing illusionism at the center of his artistic approach. In parallel to his numerous collaborations as a designer of illusions (OBJECTS ON THE WAY TO... Diane Labrosse; ARTURO BRACHETTI solo Franco Dragone and FAME Serge Postigo, Juste Pour Rire Spectacles; NEBBIA Daniele Finzi Pasca, Cirque Éloize; NOVA Robert Lepage, Kodo ExMachina; ESPACES UTOPIES Morena Prats, Nouveau Théâtre Expérimental, À BOUT DE BRAS, David Albert-Toth Parts&LaborDance, National Theatre School,... ...), he has been pursuing his research for contemporary illusionism since 2004 with the projects L'AN DE MAIN, FANTASMAGORIA, CLARA (Théâtre La Chapelle) and AUTOMATES, plays for non-magician dancers and actors that he writes and directs. He makes the archetype of the Magician incarnate through groups of performers who seek to re-ritualize the magical act on stage and highlight the themes and processes that are specific to it. Now in line with the current of New Magic, he approaches the effects of illusionism as a raw material and tools of exploration that impose themselves as rallying and structuring poles at the center of an atypical meeting of artistic disciplines. In 2020, he created, with Andrée-Anne Gingras-Roy and Jesse Dryden, the physical distancing recital LES ILLUSIONNISTES, destined to tour in the courtyards of Montreal's low-rent housing projects. Marc-Alexandre has also participated in various American and European tours for Cirque Éloize and Théâtre Sans Fil, as well as in the creations of Héloïse Depocas (É.N.C., Cinars/La Tohu, Bourse Rideau, Vue Sur la Relève), Jean-Pierre Gauthier (MACM) and Diane Labrosse as lighting designer, stage manager and/or technical director. Active in the corporate world for more than 18 years, he has hosted hundreds of parties as a magician. He has received several grants from the Conseil des Arts de Montréal and the Canada Council for the Arts and has trained with renowned magicians Jeff McBride and Eugene Burger.
