Born of an encounter between artists Anne-Flore de Rochambeau, Estelle Frenette-Vallières and Frédérique Cournoyer Lessard, SCUSE explores the impact of their differences on how they construct their femininity in today’s world through a raw and intimate theatrical work incorporating a variety of art forms. With a background primarily in dance, circus and visual arts, the three women’s artistic processes are both similar and different. Their creations take many forms, but they all share a certain sensitivity, a specific tone and themes, as well as their interdisciplinary nature.

About the Impact Residency

Launched by the Conseil, The 7 Fingers, Cirque Éloize, TOHU and En Piste as a pilot project in 2019, the Impact Residency for Circus Arts provides opportunities for artists’ collective and circus arts organizations to develop original works free of any performance constraints. In addition, it encourages research and exploration to foster the development of new forms of circus arts and new esthetics and to facilitate dialogue and knowledge-sharing between circus arts professionals. The Impact Residency also helps put Montréal on the map as a creative city in the vanguard of the circus arts.

Along with a $15,000 creation grant from the Conseil and 40 hours of Conseil studio time, the artist collective or circus arts organization will receive a five-day residency with technical support at three partner organizations, The 7 Fingers, Cirque Éloize and TOHU. En piste will also provide 20 to 40 hours of customized support.
