LAUNCH OF THE CIRCUS ARTS TECHNICAL IMPROVEMENT TRAINING
October 25, 2023

En Piste is pleased to announce the launch of the Circus Arts Technical Improvement Training. The project is the result of a partnership with Collège Lionel-Groulx, Cirque Éloize, The 7 Fingers and TOHU. It benefits from the precious support of the Commission des partenaires du marché du travail.

The training is designed for stage technicians, lighting technicians, stage managers and technical directors who have not worked extensively in the circus arts or who wish to perfect their skills. It is also aimed at circus artists with relevant experience in stage technique, who wish to become more familiar with the particularities of the discipline.

Born of the needs expressed by several players in the discipline following the pandemic, the program aims to offer participants exceptional learning opportunities that will enable them to acquire new skills and eventually excel in a variety of professional contexts (indoor shows, big top shows, festivals, outdoor shows, etc.). Encouraging job retention, as well as meeting the challenges of labour shortages, are also among the objectives targeted by the partners.

THE TRAINING PROGRAM
The four-module training program consists of a virtual class on the world of the circus and three face-to-face classes covering various aspects of circus lighting, technical direction and stage management. They will be offered at 7 Fingers, TOHU and Cirque Éloize. Technicians and artists will have the opportunity to meet, exchange ideas and benefit from the expertise of various performing arts professionals. The first module on the circus world is obligatory, and the other three are optional.

THE TRAINERS
Classes will be taught by four trainers. Maxime Clermont-Michaud and Tanya Pettigrew have taken part in many circus creations and tours around the world. They now teach at Collège Lionel-Groulx. Guillaume Labelle, producer of Montréal Complètement Cirque and assistant producer at TOHU, and Olivier Rosa, technical director of The 7 fingers collective and director of the company's Montreal studios, are among the professionals who will also be sharing their knowledge.

HOW TO APPLY
Candidates interested in participating in this training program are invited to submit their applications before the deadline of Friday, November 24, 2023.
