The Actors' Fund of Canada (AFC) exists to support enterntainement industry professionnals in time of hardship. Towards the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has received $1 million from Netflix to boost for their emergency aid fund. Since then, other businesses have pledged funds, community groups have organized fundraisers, and many people donated to support the arts community during these tough times.
"The support we receive is going directly to the industry members impacted by COVID-19. We have received over 600 applications for emergency financial aid just in one month. This is 3 times more than the number of applications we typically receive in a year. Over $460,000 has been sent to support entertainment professionals and their families in the last month and that total increases by tens of thousands of dollars daily." says David Hope, Executive Director.
