Cirque du Soleil's survival depends, amongst other things, on the re-opening of theatres and big tops. Las Vegas venues are already making plans and thinking about the precautions they will have to take when they can re-open.

"The question on the public’s mind is when will Vegas resume being Vegas, but producers, promoters, performers and venue operators have been focusing on the question of how, ever since they were forced to cease entertainment operations in mid-March."

Quebecor claims it has a solution to ensure the Cirque du Soleil's survival, keep its head office in Montreal and rapatriate controlling shareholders to Quebec. The Québec media company confirms that it has entered into discussions with the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec and Investissement Québec.

Pierre Fitzgibbon, Quebec Minister of Finance, assures that he considers Cirque du Soleil a "driving force in Quebec" and wants to see it gradually return to profitability. However, for the time being, he is only observing the situation. For the government to give assistance to the company, it must have a guarantee that the head office will remain in Quebec and that the capital invested will be protected.
