The Conseil des arts de Montréal, La compagnie des autres and En Piste, National Circus Arts Alliance, provide an inspiring framework to develop your artistic language and bring new depth to your creations.
Who is this residence intended for?
Individual artists, professional artist collectives and non-profit circus arts organizations.
What are the objectives?
This program aims to:
- support research and exploration leading to the development of new forms in circus arts
- encourage auteur-driven circus creation
- enable research and creation without presentation constraints, in appropriate conditions and space
- provide mentorship that supports professional development, focusing on enhancing the artistic approach and building skills related to project funding
Support
What support is provided?
The selected artist, collective or organization receives:
- an artistic fee of $15,000 from the Council
- 5 hours of mentorship from La compagnie des autres focused on developing skills in project funding research
- access to a creation space (120 hours over 3 weeks)
- 20 hours of personalized support from En Piste for developing skills related to articulating and positioning the artistic approach
- a one-year En Piste membership, if the recipient has never previously been a member and meets membership policy criteria
- a public residency showing, enabling networking, meetings and exchanges
What is the duration of the support?
The support is one-off and not recurring.

What types of projects are eligible?
Research and exploratory projects leading toward the creation of a performance work.
General eligibility requirements
For the individual artist:
- Canadian citizenship or permanent residency
- residency on the territory of the Island of Montréal
- recognized professional artist status
- at least one artistic work presented in a professional context
For an artist collective:
- a group of at least two artists
- represented by one person responsible for the application who must hold Canadian citizenship or permanent residency
- at least two-thirds of members must hold Canadian citizenship or permanent residency; members residing outside Canada may not exceed one-third
- majority of members (50% +1), including the application lead, must reside on the Island of Montréal
- members must meet the Conseil des arts de Montréal definition of professional artist
For an arts organization:
- a non-profit corporation or non-profit artists’ cooperative not distributing surpluses
- head office located on the Island of Montréal
- a board of directors primarily composed of Canadian citizens or permanent residents
- primary mission focused on creation, production or presentation in the arts
- recognized level of competence and ability to demonstrate it
- qualified leadership
- stable artistic direction
- activities recognized by peers for their artistic quality
- employment of professional artists and cultural workers
Specific eligibility requirements
- have reviewed the residency’s technical specifications to ensure technical feasibility
- be available and present on the predetermined residency dates and location
- hold valid civil liability insurance for the full duration of the residency (budgeting for insurance is recommended if needed)
- ensure at least one representative actively participates in the 20 hours of professional mentorship offered by En Piste
- ensure at least one representative actively participates in the 20 hours of professional mentorship offered by En Piste
- take part in a debrief meeting with project partners
Notes :
- projects that have already undergone a research phase may be submitted; however, a preliminary phase is not an eligibility requirement
- La compagnie des autres cannot provide project-writing assistance or personalized support for submitting an application to this residency program
What is the project’s timeframe?
The residency takes place during a specific period for each edition. Support offered by En Piste occurs within the year.
How many applications will be accepted?
Only one application will be accepted.
