Steps after an injury

In the event of a workplace accident, it is essential to take certain steps promptly to streamline the administrative process. En Piste guides members through the process step by step and directs them to the appropriate contacts for each situation.

Depending on your situation and the circumstances surrounding the accident, the steps to take may vary. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact En Piste.

You can file a claim with both the CNESST and the insurer; the two processes are complementary (be sure to inform all parties involved).

Entente CALQ-CNESST

First steps to take after an accident:

  1. Notify the instructor, coach, the person in charge of supervising the training facility, or any other person who supervised the activity.

  2. Make a note of the location, date, and time of the accident, as well as the name of the person who supervised the activity.

  3. See a doctor immediately after the incident. The doctor must provide a CNESST-approved medical certificate and a prescription for treatment.

  4. Contact En Piste! The contact person is Alba López Pedrero: alopezpedrero@enpiste.qc.ca / 514-529-1183, ext. 1.

Please note: even though the official deadline for filing a claim with the CNESST is six months, in practice, we recommend that you file your claim immediately after your accident. The longer you wait, the more likely your claim is to be denied by the CNESST. The golden rule: if in doubt, file a claim (through En Piste first).

*As a reminder, the venues under supervision are: École de cirque de Québec, Centre Manivelle, École nationale de cirque, TOHU, Cirque Hors Piste, Les 7 doigts de la main, Cirque Eloize, Le Monastère

CNESST

First steps to take after an accident:

  1. Notify your employer (the producer, the company).

  2. Make a note of the location, date, and time of the accident, as well as the name of the person who supervised the activity or any witnesses.

  3. Consultez immédiatement un médecin après l’accident. Le médecin doit vous délivrer un certificat médical agréé par la CNESST ainsi qu’une ordonnance pour le traitement.

  4. Important: When you file your claim with the CNESST, you must identify yourself as an employee, not as a self-employed worker (you may be self-employed for tax purposes, but in this context, you are considered an employee under the law).

Please note: even though the official deadline for filing a claim with the CNESST is six months, in practice, we recommend that you file your claim immediately after your accident. The longer you wait, the more likely your claim is to be denied by the CNESST. The golden rule: if in doubt, file a claim.

Please note that all employers are required to contribute to the CNESST. In the arts sector, producers are generally considered employers, while artists are considered employees (and not self-employed individuals). The requirement to contribute to the CNESST plan therefore applies to producers who hire an artist.

Assurances accident

  3. See a doctor immediately after the incident. Ask the doctor to fill out the medical certificate requested by the insurer (you can download it from the confirmation email you received when you paid for the insurance).

  4. Contact the insurer within 30 days of the accident. All the details are in the confirmation email you received when you paid for the insurance.

General Tips
  • Don’t train alone. If you get injured, you’ll need witnesses or supervisors.
  • Record your training sessions. If you get injured, you’ll have concrete evidence to help with the claims process.
  • N’attendez pas que la douleur disparaisse pour consulter un médecin.
