The Working Group on Performing Arts Attendance (GTFAS) is pleased to announce the publication of a second edition of the Study of Performing Arts Audiences in Quebec. This research provides an updated overview of the national, disciplinary, and geographical profiles of performing arts audiences and non-audiences in 2023. The factors influencing attendance and a prospective assessment are presented and analyzed.
This second publication follows a first study conducted in 2018, adopting the same analytical framework and relying on an equally rich dataset, compiled through a national survey of over 6,000 respondents. In addition to the quantitative aspect, sections have been added to shed light on grey areas related to time management in the performing arts attendance process, the relationship of young people with cultural outings, as well as the anticipated impacts of COVID-19 and the economic climate on performing arts consumption.
While the first edition revealed a detailed snapshot of performing arts attendance in Quebec in 2018, the second paints an equally broad picture, in addition to offering dynamic results, stemming from comparisons between 2018 and 2023.
Conducted by DAIGLE / SAIRE, the study accounts for the different territorial realities across Quebec (urban centers, peripheries, remote regions, etc.) and considers numerous elements, including various forms of professional dissemination (free, paid, festival-based, alternative venues, etc.).
