The Wage Subsidy is Extended until Summer 2021

“Many businesses were anticipating the worst with the end of the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy in December. The Trudeau government’s commitment to extend it until summer 2021, as stated in the Speech from the Throne read on Wednesday, gives them a second wind.”

“Or a breath of fresh air, to use the words of Jeannot Painchaud, president of Cirque Éloize. Over two years, well over ten million dollars in revenue will be lost. But so far, the wage subsidy has allowed the company to retain 27 of its 35 permanent employees; these employees support the approximately 400 freelance artists who perform.”
