In order to be eligible for the subsidized rate, participants must reside in Quebec and either be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident,or hold a work permit (open or closed). In addition, they must have one of the following employment statuses: Self-employed individual or Support for Self-Employment Measure, employee of a non-profit organization or a company whose payroll does not exceed $2,000,000, recipient of Employment Insurance or Social Assistance, recipient of an employment integration measure, or unemployed.
This course examines various revenue streams for music production, including sales, streaming, broadcasting, synchronization, shows and recordings. The aim is to provide a broad overview – types of rights, parties involved, funding amounts, etc. – to better navigate the complex music ecosystem.
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to identify the various rights holders and better understand income distribution in the music industry. Artists will also gain a better understanding of how to calculate amounts payable and of the various stage and audiovisual applications of music so they are equipped to handle any situation.
This workshop is intended for artists and cultural workers.
Following a degree in film studies, Jacynthe Plamondon-Émond began her career in music videos and has been working in the music industry ever since. After working with the Ensemble Amati, she worked as the director of operations at Disques Passeport. From 2007 to 2016, she developed a direct digital distribution service with the main download and streaming platforms (iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Google Play, YouTube, Deezer, etc.). Since 2016, Jacynthe has been the president of the InTempo Music and Hook Records labels. She also works as a consultant for independent artists (Ian Kelly, Gaële, Karo Laurendeau, etc.), companies (Sunset Hill Music, Bleu cardinal, DLP Musik, Productions G-COUT, etc.) and organizations in the music industry (SOPROQ, Ministère de la Culture et des Communications, SODEC, etc.).
