In order to be eligible for the subsidized rate, participants must reside in Quebec and either be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident,or hold a work permit (open or closed). In addition, they must have one of the following employment statuses: Self-employed individual or Support for Self-Employment Measure, employee of a non-profit organization or a company whose payroll does not exceed $2,000,000, recipient of Employment Insurance or Social Assistance, recipient of an employment integration measure, or unemployed.

 Description 

Through this workshop, artists will gain a better understanding of the art of Bouffon, the differences between Bouffon and clowning and its associated vocabulary. Interactive exercises will allow participants to expand their range of circus expressions. Artists will learn about Bouffon’s place in the history of the performing arts and in their artistic choices. Finally, artists will be introduced to a collective creation method and work together to bring a unique Bouffon character to life.

This workshop is intended for circus artists.

 The trainer

An artist and pedagogue with 42 years of experience, Dolorèze Léonard is known for her teaching of bouffon, clowning, and character creation. In 1981, Dolorèze was one of the founding members of Les Échassiers de Baie-Saint-Paul, the troupe that was to become Cirque du Soleil. During the 1980s, she studied theatre in Paris with Philippe Gaulier and mask work with Guy Freixe. Dolorèze is also known for creating and performing the characters MS Linda and Madame Zazou. For 13 years, she worked at Cirque du Soleil as a clown in residence. She has also directed several shows in Europe and the United States.

History of Bouffon

Course #2 
Explanation of parody/exercises. Find your "bouffon."

Course #3
Presentation of your bouffon. Making your bouffon speak. 

Course #4 
Presentation of your bouffon with song. The bouffon's family, the role of each character. The bouffon's chorus.

Course #5
Laughter/exercise. Criticism/subtlety. The bouffon's walk/dance. Group work on a sketch chosen by all.

 Reimbursement of travel and accommodation expenses 

The Multiregional component is designed to allow participants from all over Quebec to have access to the continuing education program. Participants who register for the Multiregional component and who live more than 50 km from the training location will be eligible for reimbursement of their travel and accommodation expenses. To be eligible, participants must reside in Quebec and must meet the conditions for the subsidized rate.
