Following yesterday’s announcement by the Quebec government, the Ministry of Culture and Communications (MCC) confirmed this afternoon that professional activities, such as training, rehearsals, creative residencies, continuing education activities, and coaching, remain permitted. Training studios and creation and rehearsal rooms may therefore remain open. However, they will need to adjust their schedules to comply with the curfew, from 8 PM to 5 AM, and allow enough time for artists and staff to travel during permitted hours. If a professional activity absolutely must extend beyond curfew hours, the employer must provide a certificate to the personnel involved. It should be noted, however, that indoor recreational activities are not authorized, for both group and private lessons, with the exception of school-based programs.
We welcome this decision. This means that our artists will be able to continue training and our sector can continue to create! However, we must remember the importance of respecting all sanitary measures to prevent the spread of the virus so that we can regain control of this pandemic and resume all our professional activities as quickly as possible. We count on everyone’s cooperation!
