The significance of Quebec’s circus sector cannot be fully grasped. It is not readily apparent because, according to En Piste’s outgoing director, Christine Bouchard, 90% to 95% of its artists’ income is derived from exports. Between Ms. Bouchard’s arrival in 2014 at the national circus arts association and her departure last week, several significant events occurred: the sale of Cirque du Soleil to foreign interests<\/a>, the development of a master plan for circus arts, and a pandemic, among others. This article offers a look at the challenges facing Quebec circus in 2023. <\/p>\n
