En Piste is pleased to announce today the launch of the training program Advanced Training in Stage Techniques for Circus Arts. The project is the result of a partnership with Collège Lionel-Groulx, Cirque Éloize, Les 7 doigts de la main, and TOHU. It benefits from the valuable support of the Commission des partenaires du marché du travail.
The training is intended for stage technicians, lighting designers, stage managers, or technical directors who have limited experience or who aspire to perfect their expertise in the circus arts sector. It is also aimed at circus artists with relevant stage technical experience who wish to further familiarize themselves with the discipline’s specificities.
Arising from needs expressed by several stakeholders in the discipline following the pandemic, it aims to offer participants exceptional learning opportunities that will allow them to acquire new skills and eventually excel in various professional contexts (indoor shows, big top shows, festivals, outdoor performances, etc.). Promoting their retention in employment, as well as addressing labor shortage challenges, are also among the objectives targeted by the partners.
THE PROGRAM
The training, composed of four modules, is structured around a virtual class on the world of circus and three in-person classes that will cover several aspects related to lighting, technical direction, and stage management in circus. They will be offered at Les 7 doigts de la main, TOHU, and Cirque Éloize. Technicians and artists will have the opportunity to meet, exchange, and thus benefit from the expertise of various performing arts professionals. The first module on the world of circus is mandatory, and the other three are optional.
THE TRAINERS
The classes will be taught by four trainers. Maxime Clermont-Michaud and Tanya Pettigrew have participated in several circus creations and tours worldwide. They currently teach at Collège Lionel-Groulx. Guillaume Labelle, producer of Montréal Complètement Cirque and associate producer at TOHU, and Olivier Rosa, technical director of the Les 7 Doigts de la main collective and director of the company’s studios in Montreal, are among the professionals in the field who will also share their knowledge.
SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS
Interested candidates for this professional development program are invited to submit their application before the deadline of Friday, November 24, 2023.
