This training aims to demystify the process inherent to any grant application and to provide a general overview of available funding programs, eligibility criteria, and how to approach each new application properly and effectively.
Designed for individual artists or collective project leaders, the workshop’s main goal is to deepen their understanding of various funding programs and equip them with tools to ensure the coherence of their submitted project, thereby improving their chances of success.
This training is tailored to the specific needs of the circus community, taking into account the unique habits and requirements of circus creation and touring, appropriate writing vocabulary, technical and budgetary aspects, and more.
Specific Objectives: By the end of the training, participants will be able to:
- Find information about grants available to them based on their situation and project (promotion, touring, creation, career development, etc.), and understand what they cover
- Understand the main funding programs at different governmental levels and their specific features
- Set up and manage accounts on various arts council platforms
Instructor
Alice Kop
Alice Kop holds a degree in Art History from Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and in Cultural Organization Management from HEC Montréal. Since 2007, she has built her career as a manager in the circus arts sector. While working as Executive Assistant at Cirque Éloize from 2007 to 2010, she also volunteered to support her circus artist friends. Notably, she assisted Cirque Alfonse with the registration of their nonprofit organization and their first grant applications, quickly gaining insight into the challenges faced by emerging creators.
As a tour manager until 2012, she explored the specific challenges of circus arts touring, field management, and logistics. She has worked with organizations such as TOHU, Moment Factory, Cirque du Soleil, En Piste, Montréal’s 375th Anniversary, and Cirque Éloize. These rich and varied experiences allowed her to gain a comprehensive understanding of the field and to develop a clear vision of the needs to be met and the projects required to address them.
In 2020, she co-founded La compagnie des autres with Antoine Carabinier Lépine and Nicolas Fortin—a service organization whose mission is to support creation in the circus arts. As its leader, she is deeply committed to promoting diversity in circus arts practices.
