Description
We often hear about circus dramaturgy. But in order to write circus, we need to be able to read it, break down its codes, and understands its internal systems.
This physical and participatory workshop aims to promote dialogue between acrobats by making their circus disciplines “speak” through movement. It will include group work, practical exercises, improvisation and discussions.
The themes covered include:
• Questioning circus dramaturgy and writing through prowess
• Opening acrobats to different possible interpretations of prowess
• Deconstructing circus language in order to find new physical vocabulary
• Questioning the gap between the perceived and the lived experience of the acrobat and the spectator
• Observing the emergence of potential dialogue in the liminal space between bodies, disciplines and spaces
The workshop sessions will begin with a deep warm-up, to open up a primary internal dialogue. Next, the participants will question, explore and deconstruct prowess by reversing their codes, playing with the rhythms and angles of presentation. The instructor will lead them to deterritorialize the danger that inhabits them, so that prowess becomes a material, a tool. This initial work aims to open the inner awareness of the acrobat towards different possible interpretation, leading then to encounters through prowess. Subsequently, in improvisation exercises, participants will further explore encounters. From these, they will analyze different possible readings and interpretations: both those experienced and those perceived.

Please note that our workshops are given in French, so participants will need to have a good knowledge of this language. However, some of our trainers are bilingual and will be able to translate occasionally if needed.
Required material
Training clothes, paper and pen for note taking. Artists are also asked to bring their own circus apparatuses.
