Call for participation: Consultation roundtables on circus act pricing
September 29, 2025

The Research Center for Human Potential HUPR has been mandated by En Piste, National Circus Arts Alliance, to create a practical pricing calculator for circus acts. Currently, pricing in the circus sector is often difficult to establish fairly and consistently. This tool aims to support the professionalization of the field and provide a clear, shared reference point to better recognize artistic work.

The project is led by Marion Cossin, Research Engineer at HUPR. The first step will be to hold five consultation roundtables, three in French and two in English, to consult the circus community across Canada and co-create this tool. Artists, companies, producers, presenters, and any other interested organizations are welcome.

Objective

The goal of these meetings is to gather information to build a practical pricing calculator. This tool, available to the entire En Piste community, will determine an amount to request based on a few simple questions. Beyond producing a number, the tool will help justify and understand the amounts proposed during contract negotiations and elevate the value of circus as a discipline.

During the meetings, in order to define the questions to include in the calculator, we will discuss:

- The factors that influence pricing

- How these factors affect the amount or fee to request

- Participants’ experiences, best practices, and challenges encountered in their careers

We invite participants to share their reflections to enrich this collective effort. We are committed to building this tool using best practices and the lived experience of the community.

Discussions will focus on pricing for circus acts.

Participation details

Five online consultation roundtables:

Your contribution will be greatly appreciated. If you are unavailable for the roundtable that best matches your profile, you may simply register for another session.

Duration of each roundtable: 60 minutes, extendable to 90 minutes

Registration is required: registration

At registration, a few details (role, type of organization, region, etc.) will be collected to ensure diverse profiles and that the community’s realities are well represented in the final tool. A Teams link will then be sent.

Confidentiality and other options

If you agree to participate in one of these roundtables, please note that the meeting will be recorded for the sole purpose of taking detailed notes.
