This training is intended for both individual artists and companies or collectives. Its goal is to develop writing and communication skills related to showcasing one’s artistic approach and projects: learning to document creations in research and production phases, writing a biography or company history, defining one’s artistic approach, and developing a vocabulary and visuals to make it shine. Participants will also create a presentation portfolio for their projects and learn the key differences between writing a grant application, submitting a project proposal, or promoting a show.
Training Objectives
- Write the artist’s biography or the company’s history
- Develop a vocabulary and visuals around the artistic approach
- Prepare for a residency and have the right tools to document the creation
- Establish a strategy to document and highlight projects
- Promote projects on social media and through a presentation portfolio
- Learn the basics of Canva: a simple, intuitive, and free graphic design tool
- Adapt documents and communications according to the audience (funders, festivals, residency spaces, presenters, general public, etc.)
Instructor
Claire Renaud
Claire Renaud is a set designer, author, and theatre director. Her work, focused on societal issues, explores interdisciplinarity, collective practices, unconventional stage devices, and the relationship between creators and spectators. Her career spans numerous experiences in theatre (TNM, Espace GO, Duceppe, Prospero, etc.), event production (XP MTL 45 Degrés), museology (Mon cœur est Montréal, 2016; Du disque à l’œuvre, 2022), and film (La Claque, 2020).
Alongside her career in set and prop design, she founded the company Les précieuses fissures, where she develops her own stage writing approach by blending design, writing, and directing.
