Intended for artists, circus companies, and technical directors of performance venues, this training offers an essential deep dive into the creation of the technical rider—far more than just a logistical document: it's a true professional calling card and a strategic touring tool.
Led by Hugo Hamel, a technical and production director with over 17 years of experience in creation and touring with various Quebec circus companies, this session offers a structured and hands-on exploration of everything a well-crafted technical rider can provide:
- Showcase your act or show from the first contact with a presenter
- Clearly outline your technical needs without causing confusion or concern
- Establish trust between artists and venues
- Prevent unforeseen issues, enhance safety, and ensure smoother touring
Beyond logistics, a well-designed technical rider reflects the professionalism, artistic vision, and maturity of a project. It becomes a key asset in your touring toolkit, alongside your artistic dossier and promotional videos.
This training will give you the tools to design a clear, professional, and compelling document—one that opens doors while reassuring the technical teams that will be hosting you.

"With over 25 years of experience as a technical and production director, I specialize in designing, planning, and executing complex stage projects—primarily in the field of circus and performing arts. My career has led me to collaborate with internationally renowned companies such as Cirque du Soleil, Cirque Éloize, Cirque Alfonse, and ComediHa!, overseeing the technical direction and production of original creations, international tours, and permanent installations.
I have also contributed to large-scale institutional events, including the 375th anniversary celebrations of Montreal (with 835 performances hosted in one month). I served for over 10 years as Technical Director and Head Rigger at the Palais des congrès de Montréal, where I successfully managed hundreds of productions annually.
Holding a degree in theatrical production and ETCP certification in rigging, I bring my expertise to ambitious creative projects, balancing artistic demands with technical feasibility and efficient resource management.
Since 2021, I’ve been living aboard my sailboat—a long-time passion—combining mobility with professional engagement at a distance, in a lifestyle that fosters both focus and balance." — Hugo Hamel
